On Monday we made flubber in class. You took it home with the challenge of determining whether it is a solid, liquid, or gas. Spend some time today playing around with the flubber and thinking about what you know about matter. Record your thinking about which state of matter it is by making a video, writing down your ideas, using the app Explain Everything, or drawing and labeling. Bring your work in on Wednesday to share and we will explore this idea more in class.

Life Skills

In Life Skills with Mrs. Hatcher we learned how to grab the mean words others say, put them in our trash cans, hug ourselves, and tell ourselves how great we are. Try reinforcing these things at home to promote and develope confidence and self-worth. Remind your child of what we practiced with puppets Dax and Octo in class!

Using the app Explain Everything to make our thinking visible

We have been exploring and discovering lots in regard to capacity. Today we were given different capacity challenges from which to choose, and working together in partners, we solved the problems with hands-on exploration. We then used the app "Explain Everything" to make our thinking visible. We have been working with this app and with technology in general to make our thinking visible as it's a great way to capture and share our thoughts.

Check out Shayna and Masrur's Explain Everything video below. They realized after the fact that their drawings were not being recorded, but their verbal explanation is quite detailed and shows mastery of the material. The challenge problem they chose was:

Earth Day

Today AISD celebrated Earth Day, which started by walking to school. Kindergarten joined 2nd grade students and parents in a walking school bus from Gulshan 2 into Baridhara, and the turnout was impressive. See the short clip below of our group in Gulshan, but keep in mind that many more met us as we entered Baridhara. Thanks to all who joined in!

This morning we also had an all-school assembly in which we learned more about ways we are harming our environment, followed by ways in which we can help keep our planet healthy. Class 2L has been working diligently to collect data on single-use plastic water bottles and has been taking action to spread the word about why single-use plastic water bottles are incredibly harmful to our planet. Please take a moment to watch the video they created to raise awareness:

2L's action inspired us all to be more aware of the waste we create, especially in regard to our consumption of single-use plastic water bottles. Thanks to their action we were given very exciting news when Mr. Boerner, our superintendent, announced that AISD will now officially ban the use of single-use plastic water bottles on campus. Thank you, 2L, for inspiring us all to take action to make lasting change!

Walk to School Wednesday

Hello Parents!

Next week is going to be full of excitement with all of the Spirit Days and the Earth WEEK Celebrations!

In observance of conserving energy and fossil fuels, Wednesday, April 22nd is 'Walk to School Day' at AISD.

Please find attached my route for walking to school next Wednesday, April 22. I would like to encourage parents and students alike to join me in my walk to AISD. Kindergarten will be joining all 2nd grade classes, so we will be a big group! I wish I could walk by everyone's house, however, if you live on or near the route I'll be walking, please be on the street ready to join us when we walk by. All students must be accompanied by an adult for the walk.

I've indicated passing times on the map, but please understand that those times are approximate and I will do my best to be punctual. I will walk come rain or shine.

In the event that you are unable to see the map below, my route will be as follows:

7:05 am        Starting at Road 84 (2B and 2M will join us at this time)
7:07 am        Headed north on Road 75
7:10 am        Meet 2L at the corner of Road 75 and Road 79
7:11 am        Headed east on Road 78
