Student-Led Conferences

Thank you all for coming to student-led conferences. It was wonderful seeing the students so confident and proud of themselves and their learning. Many of you comment on the incredible growth your child has made throughout the year, which is evident in the portfolios. These are a great way of capturing thinking and learning and a way to help students see the value in reflecting. You will receive a copy of these at the end of the year.

Bengali New Year

My apologies for this very late post! We celebrated Bengali New Year on the 17th here at school and had a wonderful time applying henna, riding on horse-drawn carriages, eating Bengali food, and listening to traditional music. Please see the photos below of our day.

Glass Jars Needed

We are doing a special project in KG-M and are in need of some glass jars. If you have any available to donate from used food products we would be appreciative! Thanks.

Bengali New Year and Student-Led Conferences

Shubho Nobo Borsho! I would like to wish a very Happy New Year to all those celebrating today. AISD celebrates this special day every year, and this year is no exception. We will have special events this Thursday at school, including carriage rides, henna, Bengali music and Bengali food tasting. It will be an exciting day! All students are encouraged to wear red and white that day.  Please see the note in the Shamachar for more information.

The following Thursday (April 24) normal classes will not be held. Instead, students will come to the classroom for a 45 minute period to share their learning with their parents. AISD has a new online system of scheduling conferences this semester. Your child brought home information on this in her red 'take-home' folder before break. If you haven't already logged in and scheduled a time, please do so as soon as possible.

Oobleck and Flubber

We have done some more exciting experiments in KG-M. After reading the book "Bartholomew and the Oobleck" by Dr. Seuss we made our very own oobleck out of cornstarch, water and green food coloring. We realized that this substance sometimes behaves like a solid, and behaves like a liquid at other times. We call these "non-Newtonian fluids".

Watch this video to see the students' reactions to this fun experiment!:

Oobleck from Kacey on Vimeo.

We made another fun non-Newtonian fluid called flubber, which your children are bringing home today. It was so exciting to see how the flubber behaved compared to the oobleck!!

If you would like to make either of these experiments at home, click on the following links for directions:
